Smoked Negroni Cocktail Recipe

World Famous Aperitivo Gets Smoked

The Smoked Negroni Cocktail Recipe

All the good ol’ favourites are back in fashion. I’m pretty sure a Negroni was one of my grandfather’s favourite drinks. The recipe below however adds a whole new taste to this bitter/sweet cocktail by making it a smoked Negroni cocktail.

Originating in Florence, Italy in 1919 this cocktail was created for for count Camillo Negroni after he asked for an Americano with more kick - and this famous aperitif was clearly named after him.

The choice of flavoured woodchips is your own. We enjoy hickory or oak but it is a personal choice. Remember smoking a cocktail essentially transforms the flavour. Adding smoke is not simply about the visual appeal but is another component of the drink’s ingredients.

  • Use a Sixpence Alchemy hardwood cocktail smoker to smoke the surface of the drink.
  • Place a pinch of your choice of woodchips into the top of the cocktail smoker (you only need a small amount. There is no need to fill the chamber) and light for a few seconds to ignite the woodchips.
  • We thoroughly enjoy both oak woodchips and pecan when smoking a negroni.  Allow smoke to infuse through the drink before removing the smoke top.
  • Squeeze an orange peel over the surface to release its oils, then garnish to serve.
