The Smoked Vampiros

This delish Mexican inspired cocktail is sure to tantilise the taste buds. We've altered The Vampiros Mexicano (Mexican Vampire) slightly - but we're sure you'll love it as much as we do. Not for the faint hearted...

Cocktail Ingredients

  • 60ml Patron Reposado Tequila
  • 30ml tomato juice
  • 30ml freshly squeezed orange juice
  • squeeze of lime juice
  • squeeze of grenadine/pomegranate syrup
  • 7 drops of red hot pepper sauce
  • pinch of sea salt
  • 1 grind of pepper
  • Tajin seasoning to salt the rim of the glass (see notes below)
  • 1 pinch pecan wood chips (for your cocktail smoker)

Cocktail Method

  • Pre-chill a rocks glass
  • Shake all the above ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice
  • Remove cocktail shaker lid
  • Add your smoke top to the cocktail shaker
  • Add pinch of wood chips 
  • Light for 10 seconds or so then let it stand while you salt the rim of your glass 
  • Rim the glass with Tajin seasoning 
  • Remove smoke top and replace with cocktail shaker lid
  • Shake cocktail again
  • Strain ingredients into your pre-chilled glass
  • Add lime wheel as garnish

What is Tajin seasoning?

Tajin is a distinctive blend of mild chili peppers, lime, and sea salt, making it an ideal, spicy rim for cocktails like margaritas and Vampiros. It is readily available at Woolworths and adds a burst of flavour when sprinkled on fruits like pineapple, mango, orange, and watermelon, as well as on corn, potatoes, and avocados.
